Because the Ethiopian government has severed communications across much of the Amhara region, and banned journalists from traveling to the region and documenting atrocities there, it took 2 or 3 days for eyewitness accounts to emerge. A host of stories were published based on the testimony.

As such, the exact of the strike wasn't known. Various reports placed it near the town of Sasit, others said it happened at another city, Sela Dingay and other areas within a 30km radius. Confirming the location became difficult, when phone and internet connections to the area went down.
