So true! What puzzles me is that many of the consumer goods taken for granted by higher income people: several cars, cable TV, IPhones, holidays etc are regarded as essential at average incomes. No idea how people manage it!

It is an interesting peer pressure, isn't it? No cable or satellite TV here. No Apple tech. We try to stay up with the Joneses with Freeview and an Android each. And two very old cars!

Particularly the redefinition of "holiday" as excluding the UK.
