i once wrote 75% of a novel on apotemnophiliacsā€”people with ā€œamputee identity disorderā€ who feel a part of their body isnā€™t theirs. i was looking for a non-trans way to justify creating a void. as someone with bottom dysphoria that bad, seeing the 2024 procedure made me bawl.

If a cancer patient could live but they'd have to lose a limb first, would that be considered "cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable"?? If an amputee is in need of a better quality wheelchair, but that costs money from the government, and they'd also need a ramp at home??

I think itā€™s useful to look at the circumstances of particular deaths in custody. To take two examples from the most-recent IOPC report, neither would have been prevented by (for example) improvements that have been made to cells to remove ligature points, etc. Itā€™s a much more complicated problem.

ā€¢ Officers attended reports of a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods lorry. The lorry had left the road, driven through a hedge, and came to a stop in a field. The driver of the lorry did not report any injuries and there was minimal damage to the lorry. The driver was breathalysed at the scene, which found that he was over the prescribed legal drink driving limit. The driver was arrested and transported to custody. He had a medical episode in the custody suite shortly after arrival. Officers and a healthcare professional administered medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. The man was taken to hospital where he died later that evening. His cause of death was reported as la Abdominal haemorrhage sustained in a road traffic collision, Il Intoxication with alcohol.
Police were called to a care home where an older resident had armed himself with a cutlery knife and was reportedly becoming threatening towards care workers. Officers arrived and were directed to the older resident's room. The resident, who was an amputee and in a wheelchair, failed to put down the knife. The officers used PAVA spray, a baton strike and finally a Taser to disarm the man. He was then handcuffed, and an officer updated the control room to confirm the man had been detained. Once disarmed, the man was taken to hospital by ambulance. He remained in hospital where he died 21 days later. His cause of death was reported as la Ischaemic heart disease with bronchopneumonia.

Thatā€™s a leg. Iā€™m sure it must be quite terrible living as an amputee, but this is a whole human life being taken away. That must be worse. Again, Iā€™m not against abortions. Only abortions in CERTAIN cases. Like when people just want that option because itā€™s their body. I said that from the start.

hi!! I just wanted to leave a comment thanking you for this video. I recently came across the realization that one of my characters was going to become an amputee in the story and I've been researching how to avoid this trope properly and your video was really informative and helpful!!
