Although 187 of 196 states have signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and 178 have ratified it, the treaty will only come into full force once China, Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, and the United States sign _and_ ratify it. www.ctbto.org/our-mission/...

nobody does nuclear explosive texting at yields/circumstances detectable/detected by the CTBTO international monitoring stations. Exotic (and unlikely) scenarios and hydronuclear testing in which self-sustaining chain reaction occurs (more likely either now or later) cannot be fully excluded.

This is a great read. Thanks for provide much needed context. I’m still bothered by Russia shutting off key CTBTO IMSs following the 2019 accident. Does anyone have a guess at what they were trying to hide? Specific isotopic signatures? The fact that is was radiological at all?

Nuclear test ban seismic network? That's operated by CTBTO, a civilian organisation? We have a couple of stations that are part of that network in NZ.
