I'm pretty over the transmedia franchise crossover thing at this point but I will gladly make an exception when it's not the digital corpse of Luke Skywalker or 78 Spider-Men and is instead the Xeno games, one of the best examples of shared world storytelling in the last 20 years

I thought about this again when I was rewatching Freaks and Geeks. A couple of the teacher characters talk about their time in the military. Obviously that show is from 2000, not 1980, but it's representing a time where there was greater crossover happening between the military and civilian world
