I can clearly see the problems with the term "Exobiology" (Its a dehumanizing in a discussion where Anthropocentrism seems to be the main issue, Biology and Antrhopology, while overlapping have different focuses, and it relies on an specific analysis of animal behaviour to make sense), however...
not as intuitively graspable by laypeople, and has a chance of coming off as pretentious. "Exocoliology" would come from the Latin "colere" which stands for "cultivation;" sharing the same etymological root as "culture." I opted for "Exobiology" because it's easier to understand and plausibly used
yes but "anthropo" etymologically means "relating to humankind or human beings," so it wouldn't work for extraterrestrials; however, biology as a field also involves the study of animal behavior, aka culture, so "Exobiology" would most definitely work. An alternative is "Exocoliology" but that's-
"Exobiology" is to be avoided; think of the difference between biology and anthropology here on Earth and you'll see it.
I would personally use "Exobiology" following the convention of "Exoplanet" But it depends on what you're trying to achieve, and language isn't perfect, which gives plenty of leeway. Xenoanthropology for the study of alien culture is perfectly reasonable imo.
I will note that I once heard a story from one of my more senior colleagues, years ago, about someone who genuinely and sincerely submitted a grant proposal to the NASA Exobiology Program to look for impacts on solar system bodies from the Biblical War in Heaven.
