I know the fable of the town mouse and the country one. But I don't think it's actually relevant, and given my anxiety disorder and ADHD I'd be much more unhappy and fearful for my well-being if I lived back then. I much prefer being medicated and being able to address existing issues.

You are entitled to your preferences. But they are indeed costs; they were created or enabled by the same general advances in technology and organization which created the good things. Perhaps you've forgotten the fable of the city mouse & the country mouse?
