I love reading about traditional foodways, animal husbandry, and how to make things from scratch, and WAPF infiltrated slow food several decades ago and I hate that I can see them coming from a mile away.
Foodways and cooking aren't the only ways to preserve regional culture. Maintaining a vocabulary of regional terms, for example, or learning stories and myths about the region.. producing authentic clothing or artwork. Some of the 'church basement cookbooks' I've found are beginner-oriented.

I am an American Jew whose fam came in early 1900s but assimilated HARD so whatās left is foodways and values, but almost no religion. I feel *very* culturally Jewish but alienated from the amt of US Jewish culture centered on synagogues etc. makes sense that it is, but I donāt feel part-of.
Food history today: students had to conceptualize a restaurant idea that pays homage to early American foodways, create a concept, and a three course meal using at least one ingredient from a list of early American crops.
