Seconding @korystamper. I worked at Dictionary.com/Thesaurus.com at the time of the redesign and led the lexicography department.It did NOT use AI for definitions and probably still does not. That's not to say it doesn't need a ton of work and improvements. It did and does, and we were doing it.

(The premise of that book is, essentially, "what if we took the recorded language of actual historic pirates AND the language used by pirates on film, used that as a corpus, and did lexicography to it?" It is a bit preposterous, but also very useful on this day of the year.)
