A week ago Sidart shifted from fine dining to a more relaxed Italian. I went on Saturday. TL;DR it is a triumph. The menu is now a la carte & Italian but the front of house & kitchen staff are still the same. The food is still top notch & the service polished & warm. #food#kai#restaurant

Fried lasagne, basil puree, Grano Padano cream
Black Angus beef tartare, egg yolk, PX sherry vinegar, pecorino
Charred courgettes, stracciatella, burnt onion ash, green chili puree
Market fish crudo, capers, green olives, mandarin

Sidart is going casual Italian, so we are losing another fine dining restaurant in Auckland. Times are changing. #Auckland#restaurant

I've been told that Sidart has been sold, but not sure when....

You specified tasting menu which reduces the list Kazuya is great Anise is the new iteration of Sid Sahrawat's French Cafe (he used to run Sidart but has since sold it to one of his proteges If you step outside the tasting menu boundary I'd recommend Cazador but there are many others

I haven't been to Sidart but have heard very good things.

More than one supported The Grove (Auckland) as the "closest to a Michelin star restaurant." No comments re Sidart, also in Auckland. so I think I will drop it from contention. Other mentions - 50/50, Bracken, Moiety. Pacifica. Anyone know Rata (Queenstown)?

Any Kiwi foodies out there? I've been asked by a US friend "what is the best restaurant with a tasting menu in NZ?" Did some research and the names The Grove, Sidart and Rata come up repeatedly. Comments? Opinions? Suggestions?
