Photography. A color photo showing a section of the Via Appia in Rome at sunrise or sunset. The street is made of old cobblestones and has puddles that reflect the light. To the left and right of the road are tall trees with broad, flat crowns that look like umbrellas. The sun shines through the trees and creates long, oblique rays of light that become visible through the haze or mist in the air. The rays of light and the mist give the picture a mystical and tranquil atmosphere. The colors are predominantly dark with shades of green and brown, while the sky appears in a light blue. The combination of the historic cobblestones, the majestic trees and the dramatic play of light makes the picture particularly interesting and atmospheric.
Info: The Via Appia is a Roman road whose construction began in 312 BC under the consul Appius Claudius Caecus. Today, the Via Appia is an important part of the Italian road network as state road 7 (SS 7) and largely follows the course of the ancient road

I also re-set the text, trying to match line length, line spacing and proportion (using Trajan). The missing sections come from a book of 1854, but the second line jumps out. The spacing matches nicely until the damaged section, but the proposed line is clearly too short: #lettering#rome#viaappia

My blog posts are infrequent, and mercifully short. But here is the latest offering! The very best of Roman lettering - The memorial to the children of Sextus Pompeius Justus: www.poorfrankraw.co.uk/blog/rome.html#lettering#rome#viaAppia
