📰 No significant fluctuations in exchange rate expected until year-end – expert’s opinion 🔗 https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-economy/3902479-no-significant-fluctuations-in-exchange-rate-expected-until-yearend-experts-opinion.html#News#RussianInvasion#RussianWar#Ukraine
New post up. This one is sorta in the weeds, digging into why it may actually be okay to extrapolate midyear homicide data from a few cities to yearend homicide data for the nation. On its face, it's a risky thing to do: midyear data from 54 departments to yearend data for 18,000? But seems okay!
The 2024 MCCA midyear homicide data suggests that 2024 is on track for historic declines. But extrapolating midyear data from a few cities to national yearend data seems risky. This post suggests it m...

"Given that Germany would have spent an expected EUR 91.3 bn to keep the NPPs at yearend 2002 in operations until yearend 2022, Germany would have had roughly EUR 600 bn to construct new nuclear capacities."
Germany has one of the most ambitious energy transition policies dubbed ‘Die Energiewende’ to replace nuclear- and fossil power with renewables such as wind-, solar- and biopower. The climate gas e...
If the midyear trends hold, 2024 will see the largest drop in homicide rates in, basically, US history. Certainly modern history. If the yearend decline is HALF the midyear drop, it'll be the second-biggest drop in the 2000s (after 2022-23), top 5 of modern times. CRICKETS. FREAKIN' CRICKETS.
The decline across all MCCA cities is 17%. If that holds for the year, it's the single largest percent drop in modern history, AND it completely wipes out the Covid spike, puts us back where we were in 2015. If the yearend drop is ~half that, at 9%? STILL wipes out the Covid spike! Back to 2016.
So, some promising news about the midyear MCCA data (which produced these results). Every year that the MCCA has provided midyear data (since 2019), the aggregate MY and Yearend data have moved in sync. The levels differ initially, due to the timing of the 2020 spike and decline. But trends match.
