This thread just reminds me of how I was struck suddenly after The Acolyte cancelation that Amandla Stenberg has basically grown up being abused by superfans, starting with the Hunger Games. And I fucking hate that.

For the record, the Acolyte should only have ever been a one-season show anyway. It didn't need a season 2; we don't need to see every character as they move into their future. It's okay to just be shown an origin story that sets up a character or two, and tells us that they're out there somewhere

Occurs to me Lynch could have made an evil space wizard Mulholland Drive-esque season 2 of the Acolyte. Season 1 as the idealised dream that turns sour at the end, season 2 revealing the grim reality, manipulation, squalor and pettiness that lay beneath, with mixed identities running throughout both

There's one scene in the Acolyte where a Wookie is wearing trousers and it casts every other scene with a Wookie into a very different light.

Took a mainstream outlet a whole month to write about how a small group of people freaking out about #nonwhite#LGBTQ, &/or female roles are harming genuinely good shows. Another reason this is happening is the people controlling show budgets agree with them at least in part

On Aug. 28, Amandla Stenberg, the lead of the “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” posted an eight-and-a-half-minute video to her Instagram Stories about Lucasfilm’s abrupt decision not to pick up the show for a second season just a month after the Season 1 finale streamed on Disney+.

“It’s not a huge shock for me,” Stenberg said. Since the series was announced in 2020, she continued, “we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language towards us.” (Stenberg was unavailable to comment for this story.)
