Years ago I got into a chat on Twitter with an allotmenteer in Glasgow who reckoned that drug gangs hid their gear in beehives, on the grounds that people weren't likely to go looking there. We speculated that it sounded like the basis of a Brookmyre plot. I wonder if it ever made it into print.

Got a bag of beetroot from a local allotmenteer. Made pakoras to a certain extent.

A beetroot pakora, whole
A beetroot pakora, open and steaming. Fucking lush

A superb surprise found today at my wife's allotment - an Elephant Hawk-moth caterpillar, which a neighbouring allotmenteer picked up near her fuschias. What a whopper!

Sorry to hear this. Could any other allotmenteer pop in and do the necessary? The Council’s allotment officer might be happy to help too. I hope the injuries heal up soon.

National Allotment Society says it's actyally next week- but as a 'bad allotmenteer' myself, yr post has alerted me to it nice and early, thank you! 👍 Hadn't spotted it 'til this. thenas.org.uk/national-all...

Used to be in an archery club and there was an allotment behind the targets. It was the legal distance away but sometimes the odd allotmenteer would try to take a short cut climbing a locked gate. We were all good at shouting HOLD as their head popped up on the horizon behind the targets.

I find it hard to remember I am meant to be an allotmenteer. In my heart I am drawn to re-creating the countryside within the town. Foxgloves are counted as weeds on our site but I think they are wonderful and let them grow beside the dry stone wall at the far end where I process manure and compost.

Several more beds to go. It's not the planting which takes the time it's getting the beds ready. I noticed the onions of a neighbouring allotmenteer are quite advanced. But she has them in raised beds with deep sides so maybe she has had them in over winter and the wooden sides have kept them warm.

Good luck! We have a big raspberry patch we inherited from previous allotmenteer
