Google Earth imagery of Buck Hill from June 3rd, 2024. This photo is quite remarkable in that it clearly shows the remnants of the Buck Hill fire that occurred on April 27th, 2024, about five weeks prior. North is to the left. I orientated the image such that The Skyline Trail runs from top to bottom. One can clearly see that the fire devastated the north side of the hill. It seems to have burned right up to the Skyline trail and then somehow stopped. Did this happen because firefighting crews were able to get up that trail and establish a barrier? Or was it simply a case where the fire could not jump the trail, which is fairly wide? The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St, South Boston MA photographed from Buck Hill. I have never been to this place before, but it is a huge structure in terms of area. I would estimate it takes up about ten city blocks. It fills the entire width at the bottom of this photograph. The skyscrapers of downtown Boston MA, photographed from Buck Hill. Was out for an afternoon stroll today and brought along my 135mm lens which has a much wider view than the 500mm that was used for most of my posts here. This is closer to what one would see with their naked eye. It is a dark colored building with subtle triangular patterns on it. The top most triangle can be seen in this photo. 33 Arch forms the dark, almost shadow like, outline in front. In front of both building is 120 Kingston St. Closer to the bottom of the frame, two buildings from the Chinatown neighborhood can be seen, 179 and 216 Lincoln St. At the very bottom of the frame is a wide, red brick building that spans almost the entire width of the frame. Doppler Radar Tower, Naval Air Station South Weymouth, South Weymouth MA photograped from Buck Hill. This is on the grounds of a large abandoned Navel Air Station. Seems like a cool place to check out. There is an old airport control tower still standing on the site, but unfortunately it is not visible from Buck Hill. To the right is the large white roof of The Hangout at Union Point, 26 Memorial Grove Ave, Weymouth MA The lower splash of school and houses near the bottom of the frame is all in Braintree MA. South Middle School, 232 Peach St, Braintree MA. One Beacon St, One Congress and The Sudbury, photographed from Buck Hill. The skyscraper at One Beacon St dominates the view in this photo. Behind it sits the newer Bullfinch Crossing which contains One Congress (aka State Street) and The Sudbury. Below Bullfinch Crossing is the John F Kennedy Federal Building and 45 Province. Several smaller buildings from Downtown Crossing and Chinatown are visible at the bottom of the frame. There are also a couple of highway signs on I-93 North that are visible.
