As @chrisroberson.net#Hellboy#BPRD into the 1960s of its Occult Cold War plotline, I'm hoping to see Enkeladite evolve from just something that turns animals into monsters, but into an existential threat to humankind, just as Doctor Rieu feared.

The earlier Guy Davis BPRD have a sad tone of “sorry that hellboy isn’t in this” as though that were some unavoidable scheduling conflict. Hellboy is a cartoon character!! They could have put him in, stop apologizing for not including him!!

a while ago, I got a box of Guy Davis BPRD and now I’m finally reading them all. The funny thing about it is that if I had read them when they were given to me, I’d have been like “cool!,” but now I know so much about mythology that I’m like “COOOL!”

It isn’t a reliable source due to the nature of their business model, but Humble Bundle is a fantastic place to bulk up your digital collection, if you have a bit of patience. They’ve got BPRD and an Image sampler up right now

What’s crazy is the only reason I know Stewart almost quit the books is because he told me personally on twitter. It’s not obvious he refused to work with Allie because they had 15-ish BPRD issues banked when he quit.

Scott Allie taking over the writing on BPRd is like a malignant outgrowth of a creeping chronic infection: he’d been editing them the whole time, while being actively controlling and abusive to other Dark Horse staff. Added insult to injury when it turned out he was an absolutely dogshit writer

I did that! I looked up someone who mapped out all the Hellboy & BPRD stuff chronologically and then cleaned up the file names in a way that self-sorted I to the reading order. It was a PITA, but sooo worth it when I sat down to read.

That nails it. I was finding BPRD tough going anyway, but that final volume was just… meeehhh. And of course, it continues anyway with a billion spin-offs. Honestly, I much preferred the Mignolaverse when it was a bit more focused. When it started to become exhausting to follow, I lost interest.
