Really enjoyed speaking at the Deafblind UK conference today alongside trustee Roger about our experiences of volunteering for the charity! Also many thanks to the lipspeakers and interpreters for their support during our talk 👩‍💻

Screenshot of a video conference showing three screens. The larger screen features Sian, a woman with blonde hair in a black top. To the right are two smaller screens featuring two interpreters who are women dressed in dark clothes.

I read 6 books and two magazines ("Inner Worlds" Vol. 4 is not listed) in September. I will be adding review for "Asunder" to my blog this week. "This is How you Lose the Time War" will remain unreviewed... stardustrohrig.com#BookSky#BookReviews#Disability#LGBTQIA+#ScienceFiction#Fantasy

Of the two, it looks like Facebook has more robust groups for people with a variety of disabilities to get information. There are ASL video transcriptions available, as well as people writing transcriptions that work for Braille readers for Blind and Deafblind people

the gain in loss* without hearing or seeing love will find the seat behind you and then from nowhere and from nothing the music will touch its fingers up, down, and over your back * this poem refers to a deafblind musician, and the way his partner shares musical performances with him

also insurance should cover hearing aids and glasses. Even if you want to get your frames from WhereLight or Zenni or whatever you should be allowed to say "here's my insurance card" and get the cost reduced if not erased. Shocker, but still legally deafblind at 30.

This is my dear deafblind friend Charlie, with his hearing dog Mickey, who was a life-changing assistance dog from Hearing Dogs For Deaf People. He had a profound impact on Charlie’s life, making the day to day that little bit easier and, crucially, being a companion that gave him confidence. 1/2

OK, apparently you can add alt-text to videos. Which would act like a transcript. I can't interact with the feature to see what all's available because I don't know what video formats are supported 🥲 But a moot that's also DeafBlind told me ☺️
