I once saw some crows FIGHT this hawk that was trying to get a hold of some ducklings crossing the street with their mom, they're the fucking best
Mothers Day about ten years back we found a bunch of ducklings in a concrete enclosure, abandoned by their mom. We got a rubbermaid container and tried going in after them. They walked UP the side (wood ducks). We learned a lot. We rescued most of them and took them to a wildlife preserve. Rehomed.
Aw. I miss the ducks as well. There was one I grew especially attached to. I called her, “Sore Mama.” She had a bad leg & lotsa babies. If I remember correctly, she stuck around for at least two Spring/Summer seasons. Still did just fine with her trail of ducklings. ❤️ So cute!
Every spring there'd be so many of them. They could hear a bag of chips from across the complex and come running. It was so bittersweet keeping track of all the families and seeing the number of ducklings they had dwindle as cats, hawks, and other hazards picked them off 🥲

I've been trying to convince my folks to buy ducks due to the social media potential of "these ducklings were raised by beagles," but so far no dice.
