The most fun fact I learned while writing this week’s Six Things was the existence of the village of Rüterberg. It’s on a part of the Elbe that formed the border between East and West Germany, and it was surrounded by a wall in 1967, cutting its 150 inhabitants off from the rest of the GDR.
It's interesting the legacies of 9/11 that we endure that are wasteful or beyond. On the one hand, we stood up an entire surveillance state that would have made the GDR blush, and on the other, we created a jobs program consisting of Security Theater. Sigh.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, atteso sequel, è in sviluppo travagliato. Dopo ritardi e cambi di sviluppatore, ora è in mano a The Chinese Room. Uscita prevista per la prima metà del 2025. #videogiochi#gaming#Bloodlines2https://www.absolutegamer.it/bloodlines-2-e-un-po-piu-di-un-gdr-…
I'd be very interested to look at a critical examination of how that movie does and doesn't succeed at describing life under the GDR. I do love it, but not specifically as a statement about Communism, so any inaccuracies there I'm less likely to have noticed.
Yeah! It's very different in tone. It's about a guy whose mom woke up from a coma in 1990 and will have a heart attack if she is too surprised so he has to try to convince her the GDR hasn't fallen. So he's like frantically hiding Coke cans and stuff. But has a strong emotional core.
probably the most correct review I’ve ever read of that movie, if anyone wants a movie about the GDR I just tell them to watch Goodbye, Lenin instead
