#polisky Democracy and Empire is a great book that deserves a wide readership in political theory and comparative politics. Provides really interesting ideas about how to think about imperialism in historical democratization research, where it is largely an absent presence

GG&S was sorta nice as a refutation of the notion that Europe conquered the world because of some kind of innate superiority, but it also presented colonialism & imperialism as just this natural progression of events in a way that felt like it was trying to let them off the hook.

There is no room for anti-semitism in the fight against US Israel and their imperialism and genocide. The problem is not Jewish people but zionists and the US with Israel being one of its limbs.

Israel's war of aggression against Lebanon, its terrorist attacks, its genocide is all extremely abnormal. The extremism and imperialism in the United States are not normal. Russia's war is not normal. The far right policies by EU states are not normal. Climate breakdown is not normal.

there are so many disasters happening at once, all propelled and compounded by a combination of imperialism, environmental extraction, deregulation, police expansion, and extreme austerity, I don't even know how to process it

Like I'm a broken record on this point but YOU DO NOT GET TO ARGUE RUSSIA IS MAKING REALIST-SCHOOL FOREIGN POLICY DECISIONS ON UKRAINE WHEN PUTIN ANNOUNCED THE INVASION BY CALLING THE EXISTENCE OF UKRAINE AS A CONCEPT A "BOLSHEVIK PLOT TO WEAKEN RUSSIA"! THAT'S JUST REVANCHIST IMPERIALISM!

Yeah I generally try to balance "folks from the ME and Global South in general have extremely valid grievances against NATO as a vehicle for American (and broader Western) imperialism" and the above and the position I end up at is "...European army for collective continental security?" which, lol

Gosh I can't imagine why states bordering Russia would want to join a mutual defense pact. I wonder if some events in the past would make them think it was valuable? Nah. It must be US imperialism! šŸ™„
