Learning new stuff no-one goes in a straight line. We all oscillatate / resort to our basic programming. You can take the lion out of the jungle but not the jungle out of the lion. If this is your fallback, realise it for what it is and accept it. It's not faiiling, it's survival to some part of you
Hmmmh.. might I suggest consulting some professional help? They're mostly impartial and might get you back on track / show you the way. More often than not it's just a nudge or a shove into the right direction and from then on out people find their own way..
Uugh, just off the cuff: There's two sets of behaviour. The one's you resort to automatically and those you've acquired and need to keep reminding yourself of since they benefit you. Nothing harder than shaking off old habits. Keep trying over and over again. There are no easy gains to be made here.
