There are some midlatitude areas where a drying trend led to decreases in overnight minimums/increases in frost, but I think that was only true for smallish levels of warming and gets overwhelmed by the warming trend eventually.

Wow, those journal clubs sound vicious. I've never experienced anything like that, talking about papers here is more often focussed on what they did that was interesting. And the scientific culture here (Australian climate science) is generally kind, in my experience. I wonder if it's related?

I'm glad you asked, Dave - it just so happens that this popped up in my Facebook memories today. May I suggest a sequel? youtu.be/LiYZxOlCN10?...

Woohoo, that's awesome news! And I am very impressed at you not being stuck to a screen desperately waiting to find out 😆

Wow, that is huge! I only went to AGU once, as an early PhD student, and even then the conference was too big and overwhelming for me! I'll stick to 400-500 attendee Australian conferences 😆

Woohoo, great to see more Australians come aboard! The community is still pretty small but the vibes are so much nicer :)

My personal favorite paper on this front: "In this paper, the authors review the state of the science regarding what is known about tropical cyclone frequency. The state of the science is not great." These authors have quite a way with words 😅

Earth's Future is a transdisciplinary, open access AGU journal examining the state of the planet, sustainable and resilient societies, and the science of the Anthropocene.

How did you manage to make it this long without seeing one?? They're everywhere! This one likes to hang out on our deck, and occasionally tries to steal somebody's food (a common problem with cheeky kookaburras). Although it's the cockatoos that apparently break into lunch boxes at school...

You're fine, the deadly funnelweb is only found within 100km of Sydney for ineffable spider reasons. I guess they like it here too. (Although with the lack of webs I reckon the person who suggested bandicoot is probably closer to correct)

I thought you were only doing Melbourne and Gold Coast, hooray for the bigger tour! Alas, the Kinokunya event is sold out 😭 Any other shops in Sydney?
