Deep reading, synthesis, and summary are all important skills for developing domain specific knowledge but also for understanding how to acquire other knowledge. Also, as a tool pitched to students—who often don’t know what they don’t know—this seems particularly precarious.
Google’s NotebookLM aims to make class notes, documents, and even audio of lectures more digestible for students. Faculty members are curious and cautious.
Yes, but as I explained to students in my Phil of Science class, “truth” and “objectivity” in Journalism are NOT the same things as “truth” and “objectivity” in the sciences (both of which are Not Good) and the cultural conflation of the two is very dangerous.
Blessed be the memory of Tinu Abayomi-Paul. Activist. Writer. Parent. Daughter. Killed by long covid, cancer, and systems that just don’t care enough about the most vulnerable of us. Her powerful legacy lives on. @tinu.bsky.social#rip

i still have strong feelings about this book and the way it argues we should think about AI, snake oil, regulatory interventions, etc... - and acute scorn would be warranted - but i'll settle for not giving it the oxygen of a direct engagement in the form of something like a blog post or a thread.

This is a good idea. If the phones are off, fax (link in original post - no fax machine needed! And it's free) Or email Governor Parsons #AbolishTheDeathPenalty
not sure if this has been shared here, but the state of Missouri have disconnected phone lines; faxes still go through, though. use faxzero.com to send a free fax to Governor Mike Parson’s office @ 573-751-1495; you can type a message out or copy the script here ⤵️
