From afar I am now convinced that the only way to inject sanity back into parliament is by limiting voting rights to citizens only. NZ is one of a handful of countries that lets non-citizens vote. Citizenship should come with at least 1 perk. #nzpol

I disagree - as someone born, raised and educated in NZ but who is not a citizen but a permanent resident. I pay taxes here so should be entitled to vote

NZ citizenship does come with a perk, you can't get deported for being a complete asshole. See most of the cookers and basically all of the nastiest bits of the new govt. No getting rid of our bad guys. The influence of non-citizen voters on overall numbers is minor. It's not an idea that will help.

We have a large population of highly contributing permanent residents for whom the path to citizenship has many obstacles. I doubt very much that the current problem. Is caused by non citizen voters. 90% of the cookers I know are born and bred Kiwis...

All the cooker nutjobs I know are NZ born and bred, so no, one little trick from the far-right nationalist playbook will not fix our democracy.
