✨D&D/TTRPG Question of the Day✨ What’s your favorite kind of setting to play in or run? Do you like to use a setting that is not typical to the system that you like to run/play in? I love it when settings get creative and feel like they’re a little different to what might typically be played.

The words “Question of the Day” are placed in a serif font on a black background, written in white. There are stylized white butterflies and stars sprinkled across the black background. A TTRPG question of the day from Alex, @alexsgamingcorner!

I think the lack of a consistent play group means that I usually end up defaulting to a generic fantasy setting, which I enjoy well enough... settings that mix it up a bit from Eberron to Blades in the Dark are really interesting to me, but sadly I don't really get to play them!

Most of my games are in homebrew fantasy settings, and I try to mix things up based on what my players want. I think thats both a strength and weakness for me - I don't often get to try out new systems or settings since our campaigns run for so long!

I've actually really enjoyed using a canonical setting in a system, and then made it my own. I've run numerous Pathfinder campaigns and just tailored the NPCs, plot, lore to suit the PCs more while working with what is already established in the books. It's been so fun creating my OWN canon.

I… have 3 homebrew settings depending on what the players want for system, themes, and environment. The ‘main’ one is the least ‘groundbreaking’ but probably my favorite due to the sheer amount of worldbuilding and depth at which the player’s stories have been woven into it across multiple campaigns

Honestly I had been partial to fantasy medival as a setting but I'm getting burned out on it for a variety of reasons. I'm leaving mkre to fantastical modern day now purely for the change of pace. Pokemon tabletop united has been my new go to for it

For example: @quietsnooze.bsky.social is running a fantastic D&D/Good Society game, which is thrilling to me even though I’m on a brief hiatus! I LOVE seeing a regency setting mixed into D&D. Or my DM Vic ran us through a LANCER one shot that took place in his DnD setting, which is underwater!

One of the most fun TTRPG campaigns I played in was The Strange by @montecookgames.com. I like the "any setting/genre/story is possible" theme, especially because it allowed our group with diverse interests to each get to explore the types of adventures they enjoy.

I’ve been running campaigns in my home fantasy world on the brink of industrialization for several years, campaigns, and across different systems. I find that era of real history—the tensions between tradition and innovation, rising revolutionary fervor and new ideologies—to be really inspiring.

I love fantasy that's off the beaten track of tolkien or dnd canon stuff. My home game is a reinterpretation of the astra sea in an archipelago that leans into the Thousand Thousand Islands zine collection, bringing in a Malaysian magic and myth as a starting point.
