Just wanna say, as a Canadian you can walk into your voting station on the day of the election (or an advance polling station) and present your ID and a bill (if your address has changed) and vote. We are not required to register in order to vote. You should not need to register to vote.
In this provincial election (BC) you can vote at any polling station. How great is that if you are away in another place from where you live (say post secondary school) on election day. Also available vote by mail, showing up at the BC elections office in your riding and a advance polling days.
During the last provincial election I was told my house didn't exist, after voting at the same address for two previous provincial elections. The poll worker only relented when I both showed them the address on street view and said I would report it to elections Ontario.
And you don’t register with a particular party, everyone is handed the same ballot with every candidate on it. Nor do we vote directly for our prime minister no matter how many times the party leaders say they’re running to be PM!
What's getting an ID like? It can be a hassle if you don't drive in the US since a license is the most common form?
and if you don't have something with your new address, you can get someone to vouch for you! We have no excuse not to vote here..
For now. The Conservatives are poised to win the next election, and then all bets are off.
I mean, I register and everything, but only because I'm embarrassingly enthusiastic about voting.
I don't get this constant talk about registering to vote from the Americans. Do they need to register for every election?
