So today's not just a day off It's not just a day to wear and orange shirt and pretend you're helping It's a day to mourn It's a day to share these stories so we all know and feel the pain that Indigenous kids had to carry for generations

Using today to reflect on our shared histories. nctr.ca. šŸ§” The photo below is of an eagle feather found by one of our research team members this summer while doing field work. The kiptu feather is now in BK's care on the behalf of the DEEHR team, following Mi'kmaq teachings.

An kiptu eagle feather laid on a red cloth, with two amethyst stones in the corner of red cloth.

We do not get to make it more palatable. We need to hold space for our discomfort and what we plan to do with it - and how we will live truth, so that we can move toward reconciliation.

In conversations Iā€™ve been having with fellow settlers this year, thereā€™s been a lot about the language we use and not being ā€œconfrontational.ā€ But truth requires us to be confrontational with ourselves and our systems. Settlers donā€™t get to decide how the story gets told.

I really want people to understand that this is just as awful and upsetting and invasive for a trans girl as it would be for a cis girl under the same scrutiny. Because when it happens to cis girls/women people get upset, but when itā€™s an actual trans girl somehow itā€™s ā€œcomplicated.ā€ Itā€™s not.

Just wanna say, as a Canadian you can walk into your voting station on the day of the election (or an advance polling station) and present your ID and a bill (if your address has changed) and vote. We are not required to register in order to vote. You should not need to register to vote.
