We do not get to make it more palatable. We need to hold space for our discomfort and what we plan to do with it - and how we will live truth, so that we can move toward reconciliation.
In conversations Iāve been having with fellow settlers this year, thereās been a lot about the language we use and not being āconfrontational.ā But truth requires us to be confrontational with ourselves and our systems. Settlers donāt get to decide how the story gets told.
I really want people to understand that this is just as awful and upsetting and invasive for a trans girl as it would be for a cis girl under the same scrutiny. Because when it happens to cis girls/women people get upset, but when itās an actual trans girl somehow itās ācomplicated.ā Itās not.
Just wanna say, as a Canadian you can walk into your voting station on the day of the election (or an advance polling station) and present your ID and a bill (if your address has changed) and vote. We are not required to register in order to vote. You should not need to register to vote.
