It is very much in the interest of the powerful to sell us a post-literate future. Programming the peasants for STEM makes them commercially productive while leaving them unequipped to control or resist sociopolitical influences.

Gatekeeping only hurts our own. How many trans women stole 5+ years away from themselves because they didn't think they were trans enough? I stole 15 years of my life internalizing what gatekeepers told me being trans meant.
Being fully human in public isn't a club you can only belong to by meeting some arbitrary standard. That isn't the social contract. At all.
This is huge. In a state system, where budgets are tight, this will effectively shrink sociology departments in Florida's higher ed system. You lose students taking soc classes for gen ed, but then downstream majors because they don't get exposed to the discipline.

I can't think of a situation in which this ISN'T true.
Opening a talk this evening, I had to once again open with how much unprocessed grief we're all holding. And how truly dangerous this is for us as individuals and collectively as a polity. Unprocessed grief leaves us susceptible to manipulation & to much more.
