My wife was out riding this evening when the Northern Lights switched on, and she took this wonderful but slightly hilarious picture.

A view of the Northern Lights in the night sky, shining green and purple, and a very curious looking brown horse in the foreground.

Every single writer I know who worked on something they loved has had the thought, “wow, this is a great idea. I wish someone smarter were writing it.”

One of the best ways to help birds avoid collisions is to apply bird-safe markings to your windows. But not all window markings are equal. To ensure your visual markers are effective, review these 5 guidelines from Global Bird Rescue and tips from ABC's expert Collisions Team at bit.ly/46bDV7v. 🐦

Some birbs I got last week. Belted kingfisher, Snowy Egret, and some double-crested cormorants. The egret looks particularly derpy.

A kingfisher sitting on a stick, giving me the side eye. They would fly away anytime I was outside and in eyeshot, but lucky for me I was able to get shots out of an open window.
A white Snowy Egret about to pounce on some fish. Their long legs combined with the about-to-jump pose makes it look extra derpy.
A pair of cormorants sitting on a post in the water. They look like they are thinking but about what, I do not know.

fun fact: you don’t need to “hear them out.” a bad take is a bad take. a racism is a racism. a bigotry is a bigotry. nobody in their right fucking mind should even entertain the notion that anything is more than the ugly surface of any belief, statement, or sentiment from the right

The Deer With Broken Antlers

A misty grassy field scene. The sky is grey and cloudy illuminated from behind with yellow sunset light. In the centre of the frame is a large red deer looking directly at the viewer with glowing yellow eyes that match the colour of the sunlight behind it. It has large antlers that are mostly broken on the right side. The antlers are losing their velvet-like coating in a bloody manner, with scraps hanging from the sharp points. To either side of the deer are two more deer mostly obscured by the mist.

The Holdo maneuver in episode 8. Setting aside anything story or whatever... It was an absolute *wonder* of effects. The use of silence was so cool. The way they had time just stop and the shots of it was visually striking. It was a really cool, and very memorable, special effects delight.
