Why do the mass killers of the fossil fuel industry walk free while the heroes trying to stop them are imprisoned? asks Guardian columnist George Monbiot
I think a lot of people saw snaps of tomato soup on sunflowers and assumed the painting itself was ruined. Only a pane of glass and a bit of frame got souped, folks. Taking two years off two kids' lives for this is unconscionable. Laws that criminalize peaceful protest to this degree are bonkers.
I visited the tomato souped painting a few days after and it was fine. I’m still reeling over the 20- and 24-month long sentences that the activists got.
And you stop pumping CO2 into the atmosphere now.
Climate protestor causing bit of damage to a picture frame gets 2-year jail sentence A lot more than someone causing '3rd degree physical injury with deadly weapon' That sentence for trying to raise awareness of a deadly problem? Courts totally losing the plot here www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Just Stop Oil activists Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland threw tomato soup over Van's Gogh's piece.
Floods that have submerged parts of Nigeria at the onset of the harvest season have destroyed crops that would have fed 8.5 million people for six months, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has estimated - Bloomberg
***two fucking years*** in prison for throwing soup at the glass covering on top of a painting. TWO YEARS. Imagine a judge expressing the same real anger and sneering vindictiveness when describing a fossil exec choosing to kill Earth's life support systems. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Ocean warming from burning oil and gas fuels stronger hurricanes and rising seas. The longer we ignore the science, the more we lose. You can’t win against the laws of physics. #Helene2024
One of the reasons this hurricane got so strong so quickly is because gulf waters are extremely warm. Why are they so warm? Guess. Just a reminder that the future of the climate crisis is now. We're living in this disaster movie. The ending, though, still hasn't been written.
This is absolutely horrific. Patrick Pouyanne must answer for these atrocities. Phenomenal reporting with clear evidence of Total's complicity and casual disregard for the safety of innocent people www.politico.eu/article/tota...
