Here's the XRISM press release in English! Early science results from the X-ray telescope have measured the hot hot HOT temperatures inside a supernovae remnant, and measured bits of the spicy torus of plasma badness that surrounds supermassive black holes 🔭🛰️.

Happy birthday! 🍷 Mine is June 5 too (assuming you are a June 5 bday based on timezone)!

Stairway to the Milky Way - © Marcin Rosadziński - PicHD PicAbout Astronomy Picture Of the Day#astrophotos@shinyakato.dev 🔭 READ MORE 🔭

What happens if you ascend this stairway to the Milky Way? Before answering that, let's understand the beautiful sky you will see. Most eye-catching is the grand arch of the Milky Way Galaxy, the band that is the central disk of our galaxy which is straight but distorted by the wide-angle nature of this composite image. Many stars well in front of the Milk Way will be visible, with the bright white star just below the stellar arch being Altair, and the bright blue star above it being Vega. The air glows green on the left, just above the yellow cloud deck. The featured image was taken last month on Portugal's Madeira Island in the North Atlantic Ocean. Oh, and what happens after you reach the top of these stairs and admire the amazing sky is, quite probably, that you then descend down the stairs on the other side. Your Sky Surprise: What picture did APOD feature on your birthday? (post 1995)

Magnificent! 🔭🧪📸 Auroras from the recent extreme geomagnetic storms captured from orbit by NOAA's Joint Polar Satellite System satellites (NOAA-20 NOAA-21 S-NPP VIIRS instrument). This is our home planet, the Earth's magnetic field protecting us, and causing excitation in our atmosphere!

#CentresOfExcellence#CE26 won’t open until “approx” July, with a 7-week application window. Previous rounds & verbal advice to ROs led people to believe EOIs would open in April or May, but that won't happen.

This article is full of fab Peter quotes on declining a Knighthood, not contributing to REF, being unimpressed by the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” and the “lunatic right” of the Tory party ….. definitely worth a read 🧪🔭⚛️ He was a real legend and will be missed 😔 www.theguardian.com/science/2013...

A very cool result from #JWST: a supernova went off 10 billion years ago in a galaxy that is now 16 billion light-years away from us. Via gravitational lensing, the supernova appears as 3 different images (!); image A arrived first, followed by C (70 days later), then image B (50 days after that). 🧪

Hi BlueSky friends! 🧪 We’ve started to migrate our QueersInScience account away from the bad place, and build our community here. 🏳️‍🌈 Would love a follow and signal boost to get things going! And March 31 is #TDoV so we’re wanting to hear from the Trans science community to share your stories. 🏳️‍⚧️
