I am of the opinion that the effectiveness of a ground game in presidential elections is overblown (they're a bigger deal in smaller elections where making people aware enough to vote at all is harder) but they do still matter at the margins, and this election is likely to come down to the margins

I knew a biologist--still do technically, she's not dead--who went on a field expedition and came home with a NASTY code. No symptoms but absolutely DEVASTATING congestion. She was talking like a plugged-up cartoon character for months. Nothing helped.
