A simpler way of looking at it is if our choices are to throw 1 or 2 fingers then the even player is always looking to match their opponent while the odd team is always looking to not match them.

Think of it this way if we're playing 1v1. You're team even, I'm team odd. You throw odd -> If I throw odd then the total is even (you win) if I throw even the total is odd (I win) Same if we reverse all that. So for perfectly random play it's a 50/50 chance of winning.
