The best thing that could happen to this country is if SCOTUS upheld CO and ME legal decisions that Trump is disqualified from the ballot. It would lead to massive upheaval, and probably President Nikki Haley, but it’s a fight we need to have and better to have it once and put it to bed forever.

Zero chance Haley wins the nom, even if Trump dropped dead tomorrow. The *only* reason she's doing so "well" is everyone knows she's irrelevant. There's no chance the racist, misogynist GOP nominates a moderate (for the GOP; still a radical in absolute terms) Indian woman. None. Zero.

Anything but Trump or Biden

One possible middle ground would be to refuse to hear these cases, leaving it up to individual states to decide Trump's ballot fate. I'm not suggesting that would be the correct path, but it's a 3rd way for SCOTUS to proceed.

Tbh, I have no problems with the courts recognizing Trump’s actions as disqualifying to hold office as an act of treason. It’s the right reading of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. However, I really doubt an institution as corrupt & seated with right-wing sycophants like SCOTUS will rule that way.

Well, there is nothing in the constitution, let alone that amendment, that states someone must be convicted first. Note that it would have been impossible to prosecute every Rebel soldier.
