We’re 1 hour and 20 minutes in and I just learned how to use the disk partition cmd line to clean a corrupted usb drive so I can format it so I can download a legacy version of Ubuntu so I can flash it to the USB so I can avoid a known error in the latest version of Ubuntu’s installer. Adventure!
Frankly I’m impressed I know some of those words
don't want to be THAT guy, so I'll be brief: Ubuntu is falling out of favor lately for various reasons. if it proves too troublesome, try Mint or PopOS, two other Debian-based, beginner friendly distros with good community support
This is some content that appeals to me
Yeeeaaahhhh, I tried this for about a week, earlier this year. I ain't ever touching it again.
Glad to know Ubuntu continues to struggle with known bugs in their current installers, a good 15 years after I switched to a different distro specifically because they rushed their installers and consistently bugged 'em out
Ugh. I had to set up Ubuntu again recently. Still a terrible experience. And then last week I installed an nvidia GPU and the drivers broke my network stack and caused me to spend my afternoon recovering. But it’ll be the year of the Linux desktop next year. Promise! 🤣
One of the reasons I went on down the fork tree to Mint once the whole Unity Desktop bruhaha went all asplodey within the community It's been good to me so far, knock on wood Give it a go, mayhap. I've had really good luck with the Cinnamon, Mate and Xfce versions so far (I use the Xfce myself)
