Someone replied to me bringing up fast food by asking if I knew cooking exists and itâs a joke and totally fine but I want everyone to know that if youâre in a place in life where itâs cheaper to get food that way or if youâve just worked two shifts, the idea of âcookingâ holds no inherent nobility
Ya know what I think is important to remember? Even before fast food -- before restaurants! -- not everybody cooked for themselves. There have always been people who had more skills and interest in cooking, and people whose talents lay elsewhere. It's no kind of failing!
I'm following you for this post. đ
we call my easiest recipe "slop" - macaroni chicken broth soup with chopped ham, frozen veg, and an egg dropped in - and sometimes I'm too tired to even do that soooo takeout it is
Also, if you yourself work in the food industry, the last fucking thing you want to do when you get home from even a normal closing shift is fucking cook again
It also takes time to get to the point where you can cook efficiently and make tasty stuff
But how else will they know that they are better than you if they donât give you advice about how easy it is to do [fill in blank]?
Cooking leads to dishes needing to be done.
Some people just don't care enough about food to spend two hours preparing a dish. I love a few things, and I have maybe half a dozen meals I can make really well, but most days I just want something vaguely tasty that helps me hit my protein target. I got other things going on.
I got in a big online fight with someone once about using Annieâs Mac & cheese as a quick dinner for my kids (I work full time) instead of making from scratch which was âso easyââbut required two pots, a cheese grater, making a white sauce, and then cleaning it all up
I love cooking now and have actually gotten into raising my own basil and making compound butter and all that shit that yes is both good and can even save you money but I also 100% recognize I only started doing it out of luxury and having free time and however you need to eat you eat my friend
