there's currently massive unrest in the venomous snake hobbyist community bc some dumbfuck who owned an inland taipan in the US, encouraged free handling and didn't have anti-venom (insane) got bit and now he's in the hospital on a ventilator and also he posted this one (1) week ago
Now in the FO stage of FAFO. I suspect that he may end up as a customer of one of you SC colleagues pretty shortly, cait.
This was 4 posts down on my timeline from this joy of a read tonight 😅 bsky.app/profile/lowq...
Hah. Someone also posted this who I assume to be very same guy to the “oops that’s deadly” subreddit
I sincerely can’t get this mindset. You can’t bro your way around needing antivenom. And if you love these animals you should respect their danger level Also random note autocorrect keeps pushing antivenin
Ah, it's been so long since we've seen an actual Darwin Award nominee to THIS level (For the non-snek folks: The inland taipan, aka the "fierce snake", possesses the most toxic snake venom known (based on LD50 in mice). Fortunately relatively CHILL for hot herps, but U still want to have antvenom)
Darwin’s theory of evolution strikes again.
This is just natural selection at this point
Some people should not keep venomous pets I don’t trust someone who thinks freehandling without anti-venom is a good idea to keep a dangerous animal notorious for escaping
