Best example of this is the disagreement between Haffert (www.cambridge.org/core/journal...www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...) .

I love the old Historical Institutionalist literature on state formation, stuff like Lineages of the Absolutist State by Perry Anderson, so I am receptive to these arguments. That being said, there are a lot of arguments how empirically sound it is to estimate this quantitatively.

I pretty much read all of Tchaikovsky's books as soon as they come out. Reading Alien Clay as an academic hits extra close to home...

Also pretty much everything that Adrian Tchaikovsky writes is great, but he may be already on your radar.

Have you read the Saint of Bright Doors? It has picked up some Buzz but still seems to be flying under the radar. Its a very South Asian (specifically to me Sri Lankan) fantasy story that is very well written and has everything from riots to demons to family drama. (I am not doing it justice here)

Hm, good idea. Do you mean perceptions of regions based on old borders but asked of current respondents? Or historical data?

1) The entire Craft Sequence which is a great example of What if lawyers and finance capitalism were run by gods and necromancers 2) Saint of Bright Doors which is like Disco Elysium set in Sri Lanka and 3) Iron Council, which literally has a communist revolution by fantasy creatures

Me too! Maybe it is an occupational hazard ? One of the things I miss about twitter new reading recommendations, so am going to try and start that back up here. What is your favorite "political science fiction" (or fantasy). Below also some recommendations of mine.

In general, people from former East Germany are less popular, but so are people from states that are net recipients of equalization funds. But we also see a huge difference by East and West German respondents. Only one thing everyone agrees on: People from Berlin are the worst

A map of Germany with different evaluation of states by east and west german respondents
