Today is German Unity Day. But how unified is Germany? To celebrate, I want to share some data from a project with @lenamasch.bsky.social@jos38.bsky.social and Antonios Souris on how "popular" people from different German states are - and how this evaluation differs. Here is it for everyone:

Gibt es das auch mit Konfidenzintervallen? Wurden die Angaben irhendwie gewichtet oder gehen die Angaben mit dem Stichproben N pro Bundesland ein? Ohne weitere Infos sehe ich da ein paar Probleme, warum diese Grafiken die Anymositäten erst erzeugen, die sie vorgeben analysieren zu wollen.

In general, people from former East Germany are less popular, but so are people from states that are net recipients of equalization funds. But we also see a huge difference by East and West German respondents. Only one thing everyone agrees on: People from Berlin are the worst
