when you criticize republicans they move right, and when you criticize democrats they also move right, so best not criticize anybody or else they'll exterminate your loved ones and it'll be your fault
Any effort to counter fascist movements through logic and education is bound to fail. Fascism is not an "-ism" in the way that communism, anarchism, or socialism are. There is no intellectual world-building behind fascist movements. Only pathos, and power, an appeal to a mythical past greatness.
The foundational core of all fascist movements is a "Plot Against The Volk" conspiracy theory. This fascist ur-conspiracy is always a plot by insidious insiders against the so-called true and decent people of the nation. Fascism cannot be countered by logic, because fascism is based on asthetics.
I wrote about the hurricanes, attention grifters, the limits of the term misinformation, and how it is more apt to call it a full cultural and political assault on any person or institution that operates in reality. (gift link)
What’s happening in America today is something darker than a misinformation crisis.
It's a sad fact that in any crisis there will be bad actors who will exploit that crisis. We're talking nazis here, in our new piece: 'Sturm und Drang: Nazi Extremists Exploit Hurricane Tragedy' accollective.noblogs.org/post/2024/10...
The New York Times just described Donald Trump's use of debunked and racist pseudoscience, which is at the heart of his perverted promises to purify the blood of the nation, merely as a "long-held fascination with genes and genetics." I'm floored.
if you're taking a "i don't vote for people who support genocide" stance, OK, but that should *very much** rule out Jill Stein for you
it’s actually crazy that the press just doesn’t care about this? like, one of the biggest influences on a man who might be a heartbeat away from the presidency is a psychotic racist!
Nah, the creepy internet forums for ultra-racists are merely symptomatic of and downstream from a politics and culture stretching back at least to the 1960s and occurring transnationally. This history, and its connection to the recent digital turn of the new right, is incredibly well documented.
we're once again living through an era when billions of people can't stop genocides. This time, however, everyone can watch them happening in real time. There's no precedent for how this is/will impact humans. Right now, it looks very negative.
