I think it’s both. MSM have whipped this up bcs they can’t cope w/ a 🌹 gov. AND most people (not pol nerds) see it as sleazy. 🌹 didn’t take this seriously enough; now it will likely define them. Like 2010 🌹 failing to kill lie that they “caused” the GFC. Such a wasted opportunity.

The whole idea of a register of interests is to be transparent. Starmer followed the rules but people have decided to judge him on it. It’s ridiculous. The answer is to pay politicians more & then they’ll be up in arms because they’ve had a payrise it’s so stupid.
