I don't mean to make light of this because it's a good program, but how many more pilots do we need? We know this works.

This is missing the point. The issue is not a single headline or poorly written article. It's how these problems collectively highlight the institutional rot at NY Times and larger publications. Will wants this to be a small issue, but it's not. These outlets are fundamentally broken.

all of which is to say: by all means, critique the NYT! critique wapo! hold them to account when they lapse into lazy both-sidesism, horse race punditry, sanewashing. but can we just chill w/ the constant freakouts about how this or that headline or word choice is the thing that's gonna elect trump?

So much of our politics is designed to meet the emotional needs of older Americans. These people refuse to take Trump seriously because they *must* believe that in order to vote for him. Pundits feed this fantasy because taking Trump seriously would require them to do a different kind of journalism

"The people on the boat with the swastika flags can be heard saying 'Sieg heil, heil Trump.'" I just can't find the words to express my visceral fear of a second Trump administration.

As an Italian American with only five letters in my last name, I do not rank very high in the Italian American hierarchy. Even so, it's important that I make my annual call for our culture to leave Christopher Columbus in the past. Martin Scorsese is right there and he made Goodfellas.
