Here is a thing that is absolutely true: every single stay-at-home mom that I know desperately needs some time to herself and some time to spend with friends without kids present

The idea that daycare is bad? Purely sexist idea that should get treated with zero respect. Anyone promoting it in 2024 should get laughed at, at best.

People were never ment to raise kids in isolation, IMO. It’s super unnatural and psychologically difficult. Sisters! Mothers! We were meant to share the burden.

Merlin was an absolutely dedicated SAHM. Having a pile of kids and being a Good Mom to them was her actual, stated Purpose In Life. She put down "MOTHER" as her profession on tax forms for twenty-four years. Still needed an hour or two a day and an evening or two a week to do her own things.

Speaking as a non-stay-at-home-but-single mom, so much same.

I mention this because someone has put the idea that children do better the less they leave their parents into my mentions. I hiss at this idea. It is awful. Banish it like the plague.

As someone forced by covid daycare closures to be a stay-at-home mom for a year (while also working), THIS. I was DESPERATE for time to myself. Memes of moms hiding in closets & guest bathrooms for alone time are memes because we’ve all done it.

I'm with my kids all day some of the time and I love that, I'm not one for an IRL social life, but I still benefit from distance to clear my head and refresh. It makes me more switched on when I get back to it. It's important to me that the kids see 'parent' is not my only job/function too.

I don't know how every single one doesn't run screaming for the hills.
