(I realized I’ve never read The Shining, so I’m doing a couple chapters whenever the cat demands cuddles, and it’s a much better book than the slaughter Kubrick inflicted upon it.) (But whoa, definitely written by someone struggling with substances and mistaking not drinking for sobriety.)
I don't think I've ever seen the entire movie. But yeah, serious substance abuse AND having supposedly paranormal things happen while stating at the Stanley.... I understand the inspiration behind his story.
I’m not sure I ever saw the movie. I remember reading the book, because it led me to conclude “This author is doing a really good job of making me feel ways I don’t want to feel” and pretty much swear off horror until T Kingfisher started writing it.
(Also noting that ~50 years of genre awareness now has me more pissed than ever at Jack Torrence, because dude, the correct thing to do when you’re trapped in a haunted space is to share as much information as possible and admit you’re scared, not lie.) (Horror movies are giant What Not To Dos)
