The more I talk about the election the more shocked I am by how many people memory holed 2016-2020. Every day was a new horror. New emergencies popped up constantly. I fundamentally donāt understand how people seemingly forgot about all of it.
Those trans kiddos thriving with the care of their classmates truly helped the bigoted adults (and *some* of the bigoted kids) to recognize their ignorance and change their understanding. There was a culture of bullying transphobes. It was beautiful. Hope this law goes nowhere! World building works!
When we lived in SC, this was the policy of the Charleston schools. My husband said that the people who really affirmed the trans kids in his building (besides adults like him who defied the policy), were kids. And teachers who were transphobic saw the cis children being kind and making space. 1/2
A national social transition ban is slowly working its way through Congress. While the bill is framed around parental consent, this means that any child with unaffirming parents is legally barred from social transition, and teachers are prohibited from being affirming in *any* way.
It increasingly feels like we have fucked ourselves into a deep dark corner as a society, wherein we've incentivized people to ignore & devalue their own emotionality, vulnerability, & trauma, let alone that of others, to the point where basic compassion is met with atavistic revulsion. Enter: "AI"ā¦
In the last few pieces Iāve read on chatbots, thereās been a distinct shift: people asserting that bots producing rote, formulaic texts is a strength not a weakness, and that this makes them *better* at human interactions because people value communication that is familiar.
My job is no longer safe.
"ermmmm actually americans don't care about foreign issues they only ever vote for domestic reasons" this is pro-genocidal downplaying of the extremely wide support for palestine. you seriously can't go anywhere without seeing a flag or graffiti or etc. the dems are shooting themselves in the foot.
Does this affect the other three NHS GICs in Scotland (Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness)? Any GIC ending access is a horrific precedent, and patients can't just transfer w/o losing their waiting list place, but I want to make sure I'm giving out accurate information about which patients this affects.
NHS in Scotland has effectively ended access to all gender affirming surgeries in May for trans adults without notifying patients.
The whole thing with this is that packing the supreme court *would be* a partisan move against an ostensibly independent body notionally about the rule of law. It is valid as a tactic *because* it has already been packed and already stopped being an independent body notionally about the rule of law.
