Beyond its ātold you soā relevance to the crypto wars, one point this story makes is that when your phone service provider gets pwned, normally they have to disclose that promptly, but the USG can suppress the disclosure if thereās a natsec angle. Consumer (and shareholder) protection loses out.
Reminded of the story Omar El Akkad told on a panel we were on some years ago, about a climate scientist who would go around showing expected water rise & said there was always someone who would say "hey, look, my house is on a hill and doesn't get flooded, I'll be fine!" We don't live in isolation.

@mmasnick.bsky.social - I am not sure I understandā¦ it seems to me that āyou have much more controlā because there is only a single BlueSky instance to sign into. If ATP eventually succeeds with federation, wonāt there be the same issues around which server to choose?
