Interesting point. Despite good intent, poor quality research can have big downstream effects If highly read research is later found to have problematic stats/conclusion/replication, suddenly branching research is questioned, media can push eroded trust narrative, & resetting takes time & effort

This went viral again on the other place so resharing here: Find yourself someone to talk to. It might be one of the best ways to generate ideas you otherwise might not have had 🧠🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The full commentary article about how talking to someone can help to generate new ideas

A hex-point map, showing the distribution of 7 Honeyeater species across Australia, a genus found across most of mainland Australia. The hexagons show the overall distribution of all 7 species, and within each hexagon, each point represents whether each species is found in the area of the hexagon.
A ridgeline plot showing the seasonality of observation of shorebirds in the Norther Territory, Australia. Many of these bird species migrate, and are seen most often in spring and summer, but not at all over winter.
A raincloud plot showing the variation in a leaf trait in several species of plants. In a nutshell, some species have really little, heavy leaves (for conserving water) whereas other species have really big, light leaves (for capturing sunlight and respiration)
A map of Australia displaying the distribution of 3 bee species and the overlap of those distributions with historical fire. Bee species distributions are wide ranging due to the scarcity of observations, but important indicators of ecosystem health

I know that everyone feels like they're faking it but if you could all stop looking like you know what you're doing and instead just be like hahah it's all made up and I don't understand it either and am approximating what I think it's supposed to look like! I'd appreciate it a lot!

These gifs from artist Joe Taylor are sooooo good. Giving some “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” vibes 💯 See more here: www.behance.net/gallery/2038...

Cartoon animation, showing a lemon with a face, who gets eaten by an amoeba thing which gets a real crazy looking face, which gets eaten by a pink guy with bunny ears, who gets squished by platforms, and if this is sounding weird, so is the animation but in the best kind of way

How is it possible I only learned today that there is a fish with six legs? And that the legs have taste buds? I mean really, WTF? (OK, the taste bud thing is a recent discovery, and the “legs” but still…) “Go home, evolution; you’re drunk!” #wtf#evolution

This fish’s legs are made for walking — and tasting the sea floor

The northern sea robin has taste buds on its feet that can sense buried prey.
