Today I learned that Peter Piper had a counterpart tongue twister for every letter in the alphabet… 🤯 www.gutenberg.org/files/25027/...

An enjoyable evening judging books by their covers with David Pearson at State Library Victoria. Pictured with a re-dedicated armorial binding from Elkanah Settle (see the little flap concealing the original dedicatee’s arms?)

Happy Friday! You heard the nymph:

Go drivel and snore with your fat God of Wine, / Your swell’d faces with Pimples adorning, / Soak your Brains over night and your senses resign, / And forget all you did the next Morning.

A charmingly Puckish bookplate. Can’t discover anything about its owner though…

Intermittent call out that I would love to hear if anyone comes across a book owned by 16th century Exeter physician Francis Bryna (de Brina). He very thoughtfully used a distinctive ownership inscription, and his books were dispersed from c. 1600. This is Bodleian Libraries, 4to i 1 Med.

Photograph detail of title page of an early printed book, on which is written "De Brina".
