Tracking the ownership of an advowson has led me to the most wonderful inventory of a Sherborne inn-keeper, where the rooms were given the names of hart, George, lion, bear, sun, half-moon, maidenhead, and cross keys - for a picture on the door or in the room? #earlymodern 🗃️

I love this! There are a few examples of similar naming practices in the medieval PCC inventories, but they tend to be chambers named for their textile decorations, such as the green chamber, the flower chamber etc.
