I think it was the @cstross.bsky.social piece on this that hammered home for me that if we haven’t colonized Antarctica, which is much more habitable than Mars, why would we want to colonize Mars?

Yesterday it was seating for 15 to 20 people to enjoy a meal. Today it's parking for two cars. Surely a less parking-obsessed mayor and council could have figured out how to enforce better design standards while allowing restaurants to use these spaces all year. Even the sidewalk seating is gone.

They lack the spirit of a true grifter. When you want to make a ton of money in tech, don't do something that requires you to actually build something!
